John B. Allen House ( 1884 )

A 2-story masonry residence, with a hip roof and a small hip-roofed dormer in front; two interior end chimneys; a central entrance sheltered by a large, flat-roofed portico; a 5-bay façade; windows with granite sills and lintels; and a 1-story, flat-roofed addition at the left side. The house occupies a large neat, simply landscaped lot. It was probably built as a family residence by John B. Allen (1845-106) Allen, born in Natick, worked as a clerk in a company store there, then at stores in Arctic and Riverpoint. He was a bookkeeper for the Riverpoint mills from 1866 to 1875, and superintendent of those mills from 1875 to 1885. He later was also superintendent of the Centreville Mill.
