Nathaniel Arnold House
NATHANIEL ARNOLD HOUSE
(c. 1760)

A one-and one-half story, gambrel-roofed Colonial farmhouse with a large brick center containing a central entry, and two small gabled dormers in front. It is set back from the road on a large tract of land that includes a family cemetery. In 1701 and 1709, Israel Arnold purchased 248 acres here, which he gave to his Elisha, who subsequently divided the farm among five sons and grandsons in 1736, 1741 and 1745. Elisha's son Nathaniel received a 50-acre parcel on which he built this house. In 1798, the property went to Nathaniel's son Nathaniel Arnold, who served in the Revolutionary War and who ran a tavern on the Centerville Road known as "Black Nat's Tavern." Later owners included the Budlong family, the Young family by 1870, and the Jacobson family by 1895.
