May Monthly Meeting 2008 May Monthly Meeting 2008

The guest speaker at our meeting was Jan MATHEWS, a registered nurse for 36 years, 19 of those as a nurse in the West Warwick school system.
As part of her job requirements Ms. MATHEWS has had training in both cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) abd in the use of the sutomatic external
defibrillator, referred to as AED. Each year, cardiovascular disease and sudden cardiac arrest claim the lives of over 300,000 Americans before they
reach a hospital. Almost 80 percent of those cardiac arrests occur at home or in the workplace and are witnessed by someone. Jan demonstrated the equipment that
is used in the school to teach CPR and AED procedures. For most of us it was the first time that we were made aware of what is available. The information that she
shared with us may at sometime help to save someone's life.
