Those of us who are not sport fans know little or nothing about people who collect sports memorabilia. Our speaker this month, Thomas McDonough,
enlightened us: he said that souvenir commemoratives are highly prized (and highly priced) by fans throughout the country. To prove that statement he brought along many of the items in his private collection, from championship rings to baseball cards to autographed photos and baseball bats – ranging in price from three to six figures.
There is also a market for buying more or selling what you have at Sport Collectors Shows – such as the one that is to be held in February at the West Valley Inn. The promoters expect to attract over 1500 people! This will be the event’s 30th year and since Tom has been chairman of the planning committee for each of those years many feel that this qualifies him as “King of Area Collectors’ Shows.” His passion about collecting sports memorabilia was evident to all of us and it totally supports that acclamation.
