Our speaker for the evening was Patrick CONLEY, attorney, author of sixteen books, former history professor at Providence College, and currently spending much of his time in real estate development.
Although his topic for the evening was the history of the Port of Providence, which he covered thoroughly, he also included some history of West Warwick as well as other communities in Rhode Island.
Included in some of his real estate holdings is the red-brick warehouse, visible from Route 95, at Pier 1 on Allens Avenue, that once housed the Coty Tire Company.
The area is now called Conley’s Warf where in the spring he plans on developing condominiums for people over 55.
It will be called Mill River Manor.
Also on the drawing board are plans to convert the Hope Mill. This would include a Hydro Historical Museum that would restore and utilize the existing power system and display it as a working example of the technique that powered the textile mills during the 19th century.
